A. Product Overview
The Capacitance Level Switch is an industrial level detection device designed to monitor the level of liquids and solids inside tanks, process vessels and storage containers. The RADICALCAP-5200 Multi Channel Capacitance Level Switch is suitable for applications where accurate level switching, alarm indication and relay output are required.
It is a compact and low-cost level switch with high accuracy and easy installation. The instrument supports maximum 4 set points, with 1 SPDT relay output per set point, making it useful for multi-level detection such as low level, high level, overflow level and pump control level.
The switch is available with screwed process connections such as 1 inch BSP and 1.5 inch BSP SS304, with flange mounting as an optional choice. The rod probe version is available in lengths from 250 mm to 2500 mm, making it suitable for different tank heights and process requirements.
B. Working Principle
The Capacitance Level Switch works on the principle of change in electrical capacitance. The probe of the level switch forms an electrical capacitance with the surrounding metallic tank wall or reference surface.
When the tank is empty, a base capacitance value exists between the probe and the tank wall. As the liquid or solid material rises and covers the probe, the capacitance value increases. This change in capacitance is detected by the instrument electronics.
Once the capacitance reaches the calibrated set point, the switch activates the relay output. This relay output can be used for level alarm, pump control, process interlock or automation system input.
C. Why It Is Used
A Capacitance Level Switch is used because it provides reliable level detection in industrial tanks and vessels without complicated maintenance. It is especially useful when multiple level points are required from a single instrument.
It is used for:
Detecting low level and high level in tanks
Preventing tank overflow
Protecting pumps from dry running
Controlling filling and emptying operations
Generating level alarm signals
Monitoring liquids and selected solids in storage vessels
Providing relay output to control panels, PLC systems and automation circuits
The main advantage of capacitance technology is that it can detect a wide range of media, including acids, oils, diesel, milk, fruit juice, wine, feed water, acetone and ammonia-based liquids.

FAQ
1. What is a Capacitance Level Switch?
A Capacitance Level Switch is a level detection device used to sense the level of liquids and solids in tanks and storage vessels. It works by measuring the change in capacitance between the probe and the tank wall.
2. Where is a Capacitance Level Switch used?
It is used in tanks, process vessels and storage containers for level alarm, pump control, overflow protection and low level detection.
3. Can this switch be used for liquids?
Yes. This capacitance level switch can be used for liquids such as acids, acetone, ammonia, feed water, diesel, oils, fruit juice, milk and wine.
4. Can this switch be used for solids?
Yes. Capacitance level switches can be used for selected solid materials in storage vessels, depending on the material property, installation method and probe selection.
5. How many level points can RADICALCAP-5200 detect?
The RADICALCAP-5200 supports maximum 4 set points, with 1 SPDT relay output per set point.
6. What output does this level switch provide?
It provides SPDT relay output, which can be connected to alarms, pumps, control panels, PLC systems and process automation circuits.
7. What is the available probe length?
The rod probe version is available from 250 mm to 2500 mm.
8. What is the power supply of this capacitance level switch?
The switch supports 65 to 265 V AC and 24 V DC power supply.
9. Is the capacitance level switch easy to install?
Yes. The product is designed for easy installation and simple calibration.
10. Does this level switch require regular maintenance?
No. The product is designed with no major maintenance issues, making it suitable for continuous industrial use.
11. What mounting options are available?
The switch is available with screwed mounting such as 1 inch BSP and 1.5 inch BSP SS304. Flange mounting is also available as an option.
12. Why should I choose a capacitance level switch instead of a float switch?
A capacitance level switch is suitable where a probe-based, multi-set-point level detection system is required. It is useful for tanks where relay output, alarm indication and multiple switching points are needed from one device.
