A. Product Overview
Butterfly Bolt Temperature Sensor is a bolt-mounted thermocouple sensor designed for measuring surface and contact temperature in industrial applications. It is commonly used where the sensor needs to be fixed directly on machinery, engine bodies, heaters, molds, dies, or equipment surfaces.
This sensor is available in Type K and Type J thermocouple options, making it suitable for different temperature measurement requirements. It can operate from 35 degree Celsius to 500 degree Celsius, depending on the application and sensor construction.
The sensor is available with 1/8 BSP and 1/4 BSP thread options for easy mounting. Brass and Stainless Steel body options are available for durability and long service life in demanding industrial environments. Wire length can be selected from 0.5 meter to 10 meter as per installation requirement.
Grounded junction is suitable when faster temperature response is required. Ungrounded junction is suitable when electrical isolation is required between the sensor and the equipment body.
B. Working Principle
Butterfly Bolt Temperature Sensor works on the thermocouple principle. In a thermocouple, two different metal wires are joined at one end to form a measuring junction. When this junction comes in contact with heat, it generates a small voltage signal according to the temperature.
This voltage signal is sent to a temperature controller, temperature indicator, programmable logic controller, data logger, or control panel. The connected instrument converts the thermocouple signal into a temperature reading.
In this sensor, the bolt-type design helps the sensing tip stay in direct contact with the surface of the machine or equipment. This allows stable and reliable temperature measurement in industrial applications.
C. Why It Is Used
Butterfly Bolt Temperature Sensor is used when direct surface temperature measurement is required. In many machines and engines, it is not possible to insert a probe inside the process. In such cases, a bolt-mounted temperature sensor can be fixed on the body or surface of the equipment.
It is mainly used to monitor temperature for safety, process control, preventive maintenance, and equipment protection. If machinery or engine temperature increases beyond the safe limit, the connected controller or monitoring system can alert the operator or take control action.
This sensor is preferred because it is compact, easy to mount, durable, and suitable for high temperature industrial environments. It is also useful where space is limited and a standard long probe sensor cannot be installed.
