A. Product Overview
The Testo Smart Probes VAC Set is a compact HVAC measurement kit developed for ventilation and air conditioning engineers. It combines four wireless measuring instruments for performing airflow, humidity, air temperature and surface temperature measurements around ducts, air outlets, ventilation systems and air conditioning equipment.
Instruments Included in the Set
Testo 405i Thermal Anemometer
The Testo 405i is a hot-wire anemometer used for measuring air velocity, volume flow and air temperature inside ventilation ducts. Its telescopic probe extends up to 400 millimetres, making it suitable for measurements inside larger ducts and difficult-to-reach locations.
Testo 410i Vane Anemometer
The Testo 410i is a compact vane anemometer designed for measuring air velocity and volume flow at air outlets, ventilation grilles and diffusers. Its 40 millimetre vane makes it convenient for quick measurements at supply and return air points.
Testo 605i Thermohygrometer
The Testo 605i measures relative humidity and air temperature. It is used for indoor air quality evaluation, ventilation checks, dew point assessment and identification of conditions that may create a risk of mould.
Testo 805i Infrared Thermometer
The Testo 805i measures surface temperature without direct contact. It uses infrared measurement with laser circle marking to help identify the measurement area. It is useful for checking walls, ceilings, ventilation components, equipment surfaces and temperature differences.
The set also includes a Testo Smart Case for convenient storage and transportation.

B. Working Principle
The Testo Smart Probes VAC Set uses individual sensors to measure different HVAC and ventilation parameters. Each Smart Probe transmits its readings through Bluetooth to the Testo Smart App installed on a smartphone or tablet.
Air Velocity and Volume Flow Measurement
The Testo 405i uses a heated wire sensor. Moving air cools the sensor, and the instrument converts the cooling effect into an air velocity reading. It is especially suitable for measurements inside ventilation ducts.
The Testo 410i uses a rotating vane. Air passing through the vane causes it to rotate, and the rotational speed is converted into an air velocity value. It is commonly used at ventilation outlets and grilles.
To calculate volume flow, the technician enters the dimensions and geometry of the duct or outlet into the Testo Smart App. The app combines the measured air velocity with the entered cross-sectional area and calculates the volume flow automatically.
Humidity and Air Temperature Measurement
The Testo 605i uses a capacitive humidity sensor to measure the moisture content of the air. It also contains an NTC temperature sensor for air temperature measurement. The app can use these readings to support indoor air quality checks and mould-risk assessment.
Surface Temperature Measurement
The Testo 805i detects infrared radiation emitted from a surface and converts it into a temperature reading. Since it does not require direct contact, it is suitable for rapid measurements on walls, ceilings, ducts, equipment and other surfaces.
All readings can be viewed in real time through the Testo Smart App. The app can connect to and display up to six compatible Testo Smart Probes simultaneously.
C. Why It Is Used
The Testo Smart Probes VAC Set is used to perform multiple ventilation and air conditioning measurements with one portable kit.
HVAC System Commissioning
The set helps technicians confirm whether newly installed ventilation and air conditioning systems are delivering the required airflow, temperature and humidity conditions.
Duct Airflow Measurement
The Testo 405i can measure air velocity inside ducts. The Testo Smart App can calculate volume flow after the duct dimensions and geometry are entered.
Air Outlet Testing
The Testo 410i is suitable for checking airflow at ventilation grilles, supply outlets, return air points and diffusers.
Indoor Humidity Monitoring
The Testo 605i measures relative humidity and air temperature, helping technicians assess indoor comfort, ventilation performance and moisture conditions.
Mould-Risk Identification
The Testo Smart App includes an application-specific menu for identifying possible mould risk. It uses humidity, air temperature and surface temperature measurements to support the assessment.
Non-Contact Surface Temperature Checks
The Testo 805i allows technicians to measure surface temperatures without touching the object. It can be used to check cold spots, overheated surfaces, insulation problems and temperature differences.
Wireless Measurement
The instruments communicate wirelessly with a smartphone or tablet. This allows technicians to read measurements from a convenient position instead of remaining directly beside the measuring point.
Measurement Documentation
The app allows users to create measurement reports, add photographs and comments and send the reports by email. This is useful for commissioning records, customer reports, maintenance documentation and inspection work.
Portable HVAC Testing
All four instruments are supplied in a compact Testo Smart Case, making the set suitable for field service, maintenance visits and regular HVAC inspections.
