A. Product Overview
The FlexTop 2202 Temperature Transmitter is a compact head mounted transmitter used with Pt100 temperature sensors. It converts the Pt100 sensor signal into a standard 4 to 20 mA loop powered output, making it suitable for industrial temperature measurement and process monitoring applications.
The transmitter supports 2 wire, 3 wire and 4 wire Pt100 sensor connections. For 2 wire sensors, cable resistance can be automatically balanced by shorting the sensor cable, and it can also be manually configured when required. This helps improve measurement accuracy where cable resistance may affect the signal.
FlexTop 2202 can be configured using a PC, Windows based Flex-Program software and a FlexProgrammer configuration unit. Important parameters such as tag number, number of wires, cable resistance, error detection level, measuring range, measuring unit, damping, offset and status indication can be set through the output connectors using two way communication.
The transmitter is embedded in silicone, which makes it resistant to humid environments. It fits into a DIN B housing and includes a 6 mm center hole for quick sensor replacement. Spring loaded mounting screws provide secure fastening, even in applications with vibration.
B. Working Principle
FlexTop 2202 works by receiving the resistance signal from a Pt100 RTD sensor. As temperature changes, the resistance value of the Pt100 sensor changes. The transmitter reads this resistance change and converts it into a proportional 4 to 20 mA analog output signal.
This 4 to 20 mA signal can then be sent to PLCs, controllers, indicators, data loggers, recorders, SCADA systems or other process control equipment. The loop powered design means the transmitter receives power from the same current loop used for signal transmission, reducing wiring complexity.
The transmitter also allows cable resistance compensation, damping, offset correction and error detection settings. These functions help maintain accurate and stable temperature readings in industrial installations.
C. Why It Is Used
FlexTop 2202 is used to convert Pt100 temperature sensor signals into a reliable 4 to 20 mA process signal. This makes temperature readings easier to transmit over longer distances and easier to integrate with automation systems.
It is useful where direct Pt100 sensor wiring may be affected by cable resistance, electrical noise, humid surroundings or vibration. By mounting the transmitter close to the sensor inside a DIN B head, the weak sensor signal is converted into a strong industrial current output.
It is commonly used for process temperature monitoring, machine temperature measurement, HVAC systems, industrial utilities, plant automation, calibration setups and applications where accurate Pt100 signal transmission is required.
