Here's how a current transformer works:

1. A current-carrying conductor, such as a power line, is passed through the central core of the CT. This conductor becomes the primary winding of the transformer.
2. The CT's primary winding is typically made up of one or more turns, allowing it to handle high currents without affecting the accuracy of the measurement.
3. The secondary winding of the CT is connected to a measuring device or relay. It consists of a large number of turns, which step down the primary current by the same ratio.
4. When current flows through the primary winding, it induces a proportional current in the secondary winding. This secondary current is then used for measurement or relay purposes.
