A. Product Overview
Baumer CleverLevel LFFS is a universal point level switch used for detecting the presence or absence of media in tanks, vessels and pipelines. It is suitable for liquids, solids, sticky media and viscous products with a dielectric value above 1.5.
The LFFS can be used for applications such as tank level detection, media separation, empty pipe detection and dry-run protection for pumps. It supports configurable output options such as PNP, NPN and digital output through the FlexProgrammer 9701.
The sensor is designed to work reliably even in difficult process conditions. It can be adjusted for foam, bubbles, condensate and viscous media through Flex software. This makes it useful for applications where ordinary level switches may give false signals due to coating, sticky residue or changing media conditions.
Baumer CleverLevel LFFS is also suitable for hygienic installations with proper Baumer accessories. It is resistant to CIP and SIP cleaning agents, making it suitable for food, beverage, pharmaceutical and clean process industries.
B. Working Principle
The Baumer CleverLevel LFFS works on a capacitive frequency sweep measuring principle.
Inside the sensor tip, an electrode forms a capacitor with the surrounding environment. When the media comes near or touches the sensor tip, the dielectric value of the media changes the capacitance. This capacitance change affects the resonance frequency inside the sensor.
The sensor compares the measured resonance frequency with the programmed switching threshold. Based on this, it gives a switching output to the PLC, controller, relay or automation system.
The sensor can be configured through FlexProgrammer 9701 for output type, damping, diagnostics, Teach-In and application-specific settings. Teach-In allows the sensor to learn empty and full conditions for better accuracy in the actual process.
C. Why It Is Used
Baumer CleverLevel LFFS is used when reliable point level detection is required in demanding applications. It helps prevent overflow, dry running of pumps, incorrect filling, empty pipe operation and process interruptions.
It is especially useful where the media is sticky, foamy, viscous or difficult to detect. Products such as water, beer, honey, yoghurt, toothpaste, ketchup, sugar and flour can be detected using this sensor.
The LFFS is also used because it is not highly affected by mounting position inside the tank. With correct installation and configuration, it provides stable switching even when the media level fluctuates during filling or emptying.
Its high temperature capability, hygienic process connection options, configurable output and resistance to CIP and SIP cleaning make it a reliable choice for industrial and hygienic process applications.
