A. Product Overview
Flanged Mount Thermocouple is a heavy-duty temperature sensor used for accurate temperature measurement in industrial processes. It is designed with a flange connection, which allows the sensor to be mounted firmly on equipment such as tanks, vessels, pipelines, reactors, furnaces and boilers.
The flange provides a strong and stable mounting arrangement, reducing vibration and improving measurement reliability. This type of thermocouple is suitable for applications where the sensor needs to be fixed securely and exposed to high temperature, pressure or harsh process conditions.
Flanged Mount Thermocouples are available in different sensor types such as J Type, K Type and Pt100 RTD option. They can be supplied in simplex and duplex construction depending on the application requirement. Probe length, flange size, sheath material and temperature range can be selected as per process conditions.
Common specifications include temperature ranges such as minus 70 to 500 degree Celsius, 0 to 600 degree Celsius and 0 to 1200 degree Celsius. Probe lengths can be customized from 50 mm to 300 mm and above. Standard flange sizes include 1 inch, 1.5 inch, 2 inch and 2.5 inch. Sheath material options include SS304, SS316, SS310 and Inconel.
B. Working Principle
A Flanged Mount Thermocouple works on the thermoelectric principle. In thermocouple types such as J Type and K Type, two different metal wires are joined at the sensing tip. When the sensing tip is exposed to heat, a small voltage is generated. This voltage changes according to the temperature and is converted into a temperature reading by a temperature indicator, controller, transmitter or data acquisition system.
In the Pt100 option, the sensor works on the resistance temperature detector principle. The resistance of the platinum element changes with temperature. This resistance change is measured and converted into a temperature value.
The flange helps hold the sensor firmly in the correct position, allowing the probe tip to remain in proper contact with the process area. This improves measurement stability and reduces errors caused by movement, vibration or loose fitting.
C. Why It Is Used
Flanged Mount Thermocouples are used when a normal threaded or surface-mounted temperature sensor is not suitable for the application. The flange mounting design provides better mechanical strength, stable installation and easy maintenance.
They are commonly used in high-temperature process applications where accurate and continuous temperature monitoring is required. The flange makes installation easier on process equipment and also allows the thermocouple to be removed or replaced when required.
This sensor is used because it offers reliable temperature measurement, strong mounting, suitability for harsh environments, multiple sheath material options and compatibility with different industrial instruments. It is also useful in applications where vibration, high temperature, process pressure or frequent maintenance access is involved.
