A. Product Overview
The Baumer R02 RTD Sensor Assembly is a resistance temperature detector used for accurate and stable temperature measurement in industrial process applications. It is suitable for a wide temperature range from -200 to 600 degree C, making it useful for both low temperature and high temperature processes.
The sensor is available with simplex and duplex element types and supports Pt100, Pt500 and Pt1000 sensing elements. These element options allow the sensor to be selected according to the required accuracy, signal compatibility and control system input.
The R02 RTD sensor comes with an AISI 316 SS sheath, which provides good corrosion resistance and durability in industrial environments. Sheath diameter options include 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm and 12 mm, allowing the sensor to be used in compact installations, thermowells and heavy duty temperature measurement points.
The enclosure or housing is available in die cast aluminum, AISI 304 SS and AISI 316 SS. Protection options include IP65, IP67 and IP68, along with flameproof IIA and IIB, explosion proof IIC and ATEX approved versions. The sensor can be supplied with ATEX and IECEx Exd and Exe certification, with optional flange arrangement.
Process connection options are available from 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch BSP male and NPT male, along with nipple union nipple connection. The sensor follows IEC 751 and DIN 43760 reference standards, making it suitable for industrial temperature measurement requirements.
B. Working Principle
The Baumer R02 RTD sensor works on the principle of resistance temperature detection. The sensing element inside the probe changes its electrical resistance as the temperature changes.
In a Pt100, Pt500 or Pt1000 RTD element, platinum is used as the sensing material because it gives a stable and repeatable resistance change with temperature. When the process temperature increases, the resistance of the RTD element also increases. This resistance value is then measured by a temperature indicator, controller, transmitter, PLC or automation system and converted into a temperature reading.
The AISI 316 SS sheath protects the sensing element from mechanical damage and process conditions. The sensor can be installed directly into the process or through a thermowell depending on the application. Simplex elements are generally used for single measurement points, while duplex elements are useful where dual signal output, redundancy or separate indication and control is required.
C. Why It Is Used
The Baumer R02 RTD sensor is used where accurate, repeatable and dependable temperature measurement is required in industrial processes. It is preferred because it provides stable temperature readings over a wide operating range and can be configured according to process requirements.
It is used to monitor process temperature, protect equipment from overheating, support temperature control loops and maintain product quality. In industries where safety and certification are important, flameproof, explosion proof, ATEX and IECEx certified versions help the sensor operate safely in hazardous areas.
The multiple sheath diameters, housing materials and connection options make it suitable for different installation types. AISI 316 SS sheath construction allows use in demanding industrial conditions where corrosion resistance and mechanical strength are required.
