A. Product Overview
A Pin Type RTD Sensor, also known as a Surface RTD Sensor or Contact RTD Sensor, is a resistance temperature detector used to measure surface temperature by direct contact with the object or equipment.
This sensor is commonly made with a Pt100 sensing element, which provides stable and accurate temperature measurement. The pin type design allows the sensing tip to touch the surface properly, making it useful for applications where inserting a probe inside the process is not possible.
This customized pin type RTD sensor is available with simplex and duplex Pt100 element options, SS304 and SS316 material, different wire lengths, and a mounting plate connection as per application requirement.

B. Working Principle
The pin type RTD sensor works on the principle of resistance change with temperature.
Inside the sensor, a platinum sensing element is used. When the temperature of the surface changes, the resistance of the Pt100 element also changes. This resistance change is measured by a temperature indicator, controller, transmitter or PLC system and converted into a temperature reading.
For example, in a Pt100 RTD sensor, the resistance is 100 ohms at 0°C. As the temperature increases, the resistance also increases in a predictable manner. This makes Pt100 RTD sensors highly reliable for industrial temperature measurement.
The pin or contact tip is pressed or mounted against the surface, allowing the sensor to detect the surface temperature accurately.
C. Why It Is Used
Pin type RTD sensors are used when surface temperature needs to be measured without drilling deep holes or inserting a sensor inside the process.
They are useful because they provide:
Accurate surface temperature measurement
Fast response due to direct contact with the surface
Stable output for industrial temperature monitoring
Customizable tip diameter, tip length and wire length
Suitable construction for machinery and process equipment
Reliable performance in medium and high temperature applications
Easy installation using mounting plate connection
Compatibility with temperature controllers, indicators, transmitters and PLC systems
This type of RTD sensor is commonly used where temperature needs to be measured on machine surfaces, metal plates, heater blocks, molds, dies, bearing housings and other industrial equipment.

FAQ
1. What is a pin type RTD sensor?
A pin type RTD sensor is a temperature sensor designed to measure surface temperature through direct contact. It is also called a surface RTD sensor or contact RTD sensor.
2. Where is a pin type RTD sensor used?
It is used in machinery, heaters, molds, dies, plates, industrial equipment, plastic machines, process plants and surface temperature monitoring applications.
3. Which sensing element is used in this RTD sensor?
This sensor commonly uses a Pt100 element. It can be supplied in simplex and duplex versions based on the application requirement.
4. What is the temperature range of this sensor?
The temperature range is -50 to 500°C, depending on the sensor construction, wire type and application condition.
5. What material is used for the sensor body?
The sensor can be manufactured using SS304 and SS316 material. SS316 is preferred where better corrosion resistance is required.
6. Can the tip size be customized?
Yes, the tip diameter and tip length can be customized. Common options include 3 to 6 mm diameter and 10 to 50 mm length.
7. Can the wire length be customized?
Yes, wire length can be customized from 0.5 meter to 10 meter as per installation requirement.
8. What is the difference between simplex and duplex RTD sensor?
A simplex RTD has one sensing element, while a duplex RTD has two sensing elements inside the same sensor. Duplex RTD sensors are used when two readings or backup measurement is required.
