A. Product Overview
A Leaf Type Thermocouple is a specially designed surface temperature sensor used to measure the temperature of flat surfaces, dies, molds, hot plates, heaters, and industrial machine parts. It uses a K Type thermocouple element that generates a temperature signal when it comes in contact with a heated surface.
This thermocouple is available in different sheath diameters such as 3 mm, 4.5 mm, 6 mm, and 8 mm. It can be supplied in sheath lengths such as 100 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm, 250 mm, 300 mm, and customized lengths as per application requirement.
The sheath material options include SS310, SS316, and Inconel, making it suitable for industrial environments where high temperature, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength are important. The wire length can be supplied in 0.5 meter, 1 meter, 1.5 meter, or 2 meter with connector.
B. Working Principle
A Leaf Type Thermocouple works on the thermoelectric principle. When the sensing tip or leaf portion touches a hot surface, heat is transferred from the surface to the thermocouple junction.
The thermocouple junction is made from two different metals. When there is a temperature difference between the hot junction and the reference junction, a small voltage is generated. This voltage is then read by a temperature indicator, controller, or digital K Type thermometer and converted into temperature value.
Because the leaf design provides direct surface contact, it helps in faster response compared to many traditional surface measurement methods.
C. Why It Is Used
Leaf Type Thermocouples are used where surface temperature measurement is required but normal thermocouples are difficult to mount or insert. They are useful for applications where quick contact measurement, easy handling, and removable installation are needed.
It is mainly used for:
Surface temperature measurement
Die and mold temperature checking
Hot plate and heater temperature monitoring
Plastic processing machines
Packaging machines
Industrial maintenance
Quality inspection
Machine surface temperature checking
Laboratory and testing applications
Hard-to-access surface temperature measurement
This thermocouple is preferred because it is easy to install, easy to remove, and can be attached using clips, clamps, or suitable adhesives depending on the application.

FAQ
Q1. What is a Leaf Type Thermocouple?
A Leaf Type Thermocouple is a surface temperature sensor used to measure the temperature of flat surfaces, dies, molds, hot plates, heaters, and industrial machines.
Q2. Which thermocouple type is used in this product?
This product is commonly available in K Type simplex construction. K Type thermocouples are widely used for industrial temperature measurement because they offer a wide temperature range and reliable performance.
Q3. What is the temperature range of a Leaf Type Thermocouple?
The temperature range can go up to 1200°C depending on the thermocouple design, sheath material, insulation, cable type, and application condition.
Q4. What sheath materials are available?
Common sheath material options include SS310, SS316, and Inconel. SS316 is suitable for corrosion resistance, SS310 is suitable for high temperature applications, and Inconel is suitable for harsh and high temperature environments.
Q5. Where is a Leaf Type Thermocouple used?
It is used in dies, molds, hot plates, industrial heaters, plastic molding machines, packaging machines, maintenance work, and surface temperature inspection.
Q6. Can a Leaf Type Thermocouple measure liquid temperature?
A standard leaf thermocouple is mainly designed for surface temperature measurement. For liquid temperature measurement, a proper immersion type thermocouple probe is recommended.
Q7. How is a Leaf Type Thermocouple installed?
It can be placed directly on the surface and fixed using clips, clamps, adhesives, or a suitable mounting arrangement depending on the machine and temperature condition.
Q8. Does a Leaf Type Thermocouple require calibration?
Yes, calibration is recommended when accurate temperature measurement is required, especially in quality control, laboratory, process control, and critical industrial applications.
Q9. What wire lengths are available?
Common wire lengths include 0.5 meter, 1 meter, 1.5 meter, and 2 meter with connector. Customized wire lengths can also be supplied as per requirement.
Q10. Why choose a Leaf Type Thermocouple instead of a regular thermocouple?
A Leaf Type Thermocouple is better for surface measurement because it provides direct contact with flat surfaces and gives faster response in applications where insertion type thermocouples cannot be used easily.
