A. Product Overview
RTD Sensor with Flange Mounted Connection is used for measuring process temperature in industrial applications where a strong, stable and leak-resistant mounting arrangement is required. The sensor is installed directly on a flange or process connection, making it suitable for pipelines, tanks, reactors, pressure vessels and other process equipment.
This sensor is commonly available in Pt100 RTD type, J type and K type options, depending on the required temperature range and application. It can be supplied in simplex or duplex construction. Simplex has one sensing element, while duplex has two sensing elements for backup, dual indication or control and monitoring from the same point.
The sensor can be customized with different probe lengths such as 50 mm, 100 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm, 300 mm and other sizes as per requirement. Flange sizes such as 1 inch, 1.5 inch, 2 inch and 2.5 inch can be selected based on the process connection. Sheath material options include SS304, SS316, SS310 and Inconel for different industrial environments.
B. Working Principle
In a Pt100 RTD sensor, the sensing element changes its electrical resistance according to temperature. Pt100 means the sensor has a resistance of 100 ohms at 0 degree Celsius. As the process temperature increases or decreases, the resistance value changes in a predictable manner.
This resistance signal is sent to a temperature indicator, controller, transmitter, PLC or data acquisition system. The connected instrument converts the resistance value into a temperature reading.
In J type and K type thermocouple options, the sensor works on the thermoelectric principle. Two different metal wires are joined at the sensing tip. When the tip is heated, a small voltage is generated, and this voltage is converted into temperature by the measuring instrument.
The flange-mounted design provides firm mechanical support and ensures proper positioning of the sensing probe inside the process.
C. Why It Is Used
RTD sensors with flange mounted connection are used because they provide accurate, stable and reliable temperature measurement in demanding industrial conditions. The flange connection gives strong mounting support and is suitable for applications where threaded connection is not preferred or where larger process connections are required.
They are used for:
Accurate temperature measurement in pipelines, tanks and vessels
Temperature monitoring in reactors and process equipment
Industrial process control and automation
High temperature and high pressure process applications
Applications where strong mechanical installation is required
Chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas and power plant applications
Food, pharma and manufacturing process temperature monitoring
The main benefit of this sensor is that it offers reliable temperature measurement, customized construction and better suitability for heavy-duty process environments.

FAQ
1. What is an RTD sensor with flange mounted connection?
An RTD sensor with flange mounted connection is a temperature sensor designed to be installed on a flanged process connection. It is used for measuring temperature inside pipelines, tanks, vessels, reactors and other industrial equipment.
2. Where is a flanged RTD sensor used?
A flanged RTD sensor is used in chemical plants, petrochemical industries, oil and gas plants, power plants, pharmaceutical units, food processing industries, boilers, reactors, tanks and process pipelines.
3. What is the difference between simplex and duplex RTD sensor?
A simplex RTD sensor has one sensing element. A duplex RTD sensor has two sensing elements inside the same probe. Duplex sensors are useful where backup sensing, dual indication or separate control and monitoring signals are required.
4. Which sheath material is suitable for RTD sensors?
Common sheath materials include SS304, SS316, SS310 and Inconel. SS316 is commonly used for corrosion resistance, SS310 is suitable for higher temperature applications and Inconel is preferred for harsh and high temperature environments.
5. What temperature range is available in flange mounted RTD sensors?
The temperature range depends on the sensor type and construction. Common ranges include minus 70 to 500 degree Celsius for RTD type and higher ranges such as 0 to 600 degree Celsius or 0 to 1200 degree Celsius for thermocouple type options.
6. Can the probe length and flange size be customized?
Yes, probe length and flange size can be customized as per process requirement. Common probe lengths include 50 mm, 100 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm and 300 mm. Common flange sizes include 1 inch, 1.5 inch, 2 inch and 2.5 inch.
7. Why should I choose a flange mounted RTD sensor instead of a threaded RTD sensor?
A flange mounted RTD sensor is preferred when a stronger process connection is needed, especially in pipelines, tanks, vessels and heavy-duty industrial applications. It provides better mechanical stability compared to small threaded connections.
8. Is this sensor suitable for high pressure applications?
Yes, flange mounted RTD sensors can be designed for high pressure applications depending on flange rating, sheath material, probe construction and process requirement.
9. Can this sensor be connected to a temperature transmitter or PLC?
Yes, the RTD sensor can be connected to a temperature transmitter, controller, indicator, PLC, data logger or SCADA system for monitoring and control.
10. Which industries commonly use RTD sensor with flange mounted connection?
Industries such as chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, power generation, pharmaceuticals, food processing, boiler manufacturing and industrial automation commonly use flange mounted RTD sensors.
